Dance Fridays Standard of Conduct
Dance Fridays is San Francisco's biggest weekly salsa and bachata party, and it stays that way because of how people treat each other on the floor.
This Standard applies to everyone at Dance Fridays: every guest, every first-timer and every VIP. Buying a ticket or walking in means you agree to it.
The Standard
Consent is the whole thing. A no is a no, the first time, no explanation needed. Hands where a dance needs them and nowhere else. If you see it go wrong for someone else, tell staff. Ask with a smile and an open hand; never grab someone's hand or pull them onto the floor. Anyone can ask anyone, and anyone can say no, no reason needed. If you get a no, say thanks. It's fine to ask again later in the night, once, respectfully, but not again and again. The closeness of the hold is always your partner's call: in bachata especially, if they open up the frame, give them the space.
Your guests are yours. If you brought them, you vouch for them.
Staff run the night. Door, bar, security and instructors have the final call on the night. Raise it with us afterwards if you disagree.
Respect the room. It's the venue's dress code and house rules, every time: no outside alcohol, no outside food, no water bottles or drinks carried in, and dress classy for a night out — no shorts, no tank tops. Look good. It's a close-contact dance, so come fresh: deodorant, mints, and a spare shirt if you'll be dancing all night. Nothing that could cost us the room.
Know your limit. Anyone we judge too intoxicated to be safe on a dance floor is refused or removed, ticket or pass.
Be good to the room. Everyone was new once. How you treat first-timers and other dancers is what makes Dance Fridays what it is.
Keep the floor safe. It's a social dance floor, not a stage: no dips, no tricks, no aerials. Leaders, watch out for your follower. Take small steps and be aware of your space. If you step on or bump into someone, even by accident, say you're sorry.
Leave the teaching to class. The social floor is for dancing, not lessons: no unasked-for corrections or tips. If someone wants to learn, point them to the lessons at the start of every Dance Fridays.
Let's have the best-behaved dance floor in SF.
If it's broken
First time on 3, 4, 6, 7 or 8: a word from our staff.
Anything under 1 or 5, or a repeat of the others: removal from the event without a refund, and we may refuse future entry.
Serious misconduct toward another person: immediate removal and a permanent ban from our events, and we involve the police where it's warranted.
VIP Pass holders also agree to this Standard under §8 of the VIP Pass Terms.
How to report something
On the night: tell any staff member — the door, the DJ booth, the bar or security. We'll act right away.
After the night: email info@dancesf.com with what happened, when, and who was involved (a description is fine if you don't know their name). Every report is read, kept confidential and followed up.
If anyone is in immediate danger, call 911.
